Stefania Bariatti


Ms. Bariatti holds a Degree in Law from the University of Milan and is a lawyer in Milan.

Between 1994 and 2002 she was Professor of International Law, EU Law and EU Competition Law at the University of Sassari and the University of Milan-Bicocca.

Since 2002, she has been a full Professor of International Law in the University of Milan’s Faculty of Law, where she teaches International Law, International Private and procedural Law and International Insolvency Law.

She assisted the European Parliament and the European Commission on the preparation of Union legislation. She has also held several positions in international organisations as the representative of the Italian Government and was member of the Italian delegation to the Hague Conference of Private
Since 2014, she has been a member of the Governing Council of UNIDROIT (International Organisation for the Unification of Private Law).

In 2007, she became a Partner of the Chiomenti Studio Legale where she has been Of Counsel since 2013.
Since 2010, she has been a director of Centro Nazionale di Prevenzione e Difesa Sociale CNPDS Onlus.
Since 2013 she is a member of the board of directors of SIAS S.p.A, currently retaining the role of Deputy Chairman.

She has been a member of the Council of Assonime as of March 2018 and became a member of its Board of Directors in September 2019.

Since May 2018, she has been a member of the Corporate Governance Committee and in July 2018 she was appointed Deputy Chairperson of the Italian Banking Association.

Ms. Bariatti has been a member of the Board of Directors of Banca Monte dei Paschi since 16 April 2015 and Chairperson since 21 December 2017.
