Mario Stella Richter (Rome, 1965) graduated summa cum laude in Law at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”, where he also obtained a Master in Comparative Law and a Ph.D. In 1991 he gained, with the “D. Menichella scholarship”, awarded by the Bank of Italy, an LL.M. at the Columbia University of New York. For three times he also received the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft fellowship. Full Professor of Commercial Law since 2000, during his academic career, he has taught at the Universities of Macerata, Bozen, Bocconi and Luiss. Mario is currently tenured professor of Corporate and Business Law at Tor Vergata University in Rome and a practicing lawyer. His practice, both as counsel and arbitrator, focuses on financial markets, corporate law and corporate governance. He has also worked as consultant for the Italian Treasury on corporate law issues for nine years, as well as legal counsellor of Assogestioni, the Italian Investment Management Association, for seven years and acted as member of the European Commission Advisory Group on Corporate Governance and Company Law for five years.

He has also served on the Italian Code of Corporate Governance’s drafting committee and has been chairman or member of the board of some financial institutions, as well as independent director and chair of the statutory board of auditors of certain Italian listed companies.

He has published more than 200 books, articles and notes.
