Christoph Van der Elst


Christoph Van der Elst is professor of Business Law and Economics at Tilburg University and at Ghent University (Belgium). In Tilburg he is chairing the Department of Business Law. He is/was visiting professor at Vanderbilt University (Nashville), IDC (Tel Aviv), the University of Torino (CLEI), the European College (Bruges), Babeș-Bolyai University (Cluj) and various other universities. He is also a European Corporate Governance Institute Research Associate. He is a member of the Belgian Bar since 1995, advised the European Parliament and the European Commission, and acted as expert for the Belgian Minister of Economic Affairs, the Permanent Representative of Belgium to the European Union and the Belgian Institute of Auditors. He is the chairman of the professional examination commission of the registered auditors. He is also a member of the audit committee of the Ghent University Hospital. He holds both a master in law and a master in economics and has a PhD. in economics. His research interests are corporate governance, (economic analysis of) company law, and new technologies and corporate law. His work has been published in high standing academic journals like EBOR and IRLE as well as in professional journals and with major publishers like OUP, EE and CUP.
